Aircraft hangars house some of the most valuable assets in aviation: aircraft, engines, specialized tooling, and the operations that depend on them, all under one roof. Whether caused by a fire or an unnecessary suppression system discharge, the resulting damage, cleanup, and operational downtime can be significant. Fire Rover's FM Approved Continuous Flow system offers a different approach to protecting these critical assets.
Traditional ceiling-level fire suppression systems are designed to respond to specific activation conditions, which can allow a fire to develop before suppression begins. Additionally, accidental discharges of conventional foam systems due to faulty or wet equipment, power outages/surges, maintenance, or human error can result in costly cleanup, aircraft damage, and extended operational disruptions. Fire Rover is designed to address both challenges through early detection, human verification, and precision-targeted suppression.
The system combines thermal imaging, optical flame detection, and advanced video analytics with 24/7 remote monitoring. When a potential fire is detected, a trained Fire Rover operator visually verifies the event before initiating suppression. This critical human element adds an additional layer of protection against unnecessary discharges while enabling a rapid response to confirmed fires.
Once a fire is verified, the operator remotely directs the suppression nozzle toward the source, delivering water or an approved suppression agent precisely where it is needed. Rather than unnecessarily discharging across an entire hangar, Fire Rover focuses suppression on the affected area, helping minimize collateral damage, cleanup costs, and operational downtime.
Speed and precision are the critical difference. By identifying potential fires in their earliest stages and delivering targeted suppression, Fire Rover is designed to intervene before an incident escalates, potentially controlling a fire before conventional ceiling-level suppression systems activate.
The Continuous Flow system utilizes a continuous water supply through municipal infrastructure or a dedicated fire pump and appropriate valve assembly. As the first FM Approved remote-operated fire protection system, Fire Rover provides an independently evaluated solution for facility owners, insurers, and authorities having jurisdiction.
Fire Rover also offers flexibility in system design and deployment. Depending on facility requirements, applicable codes, and AHJ approval, the system can be incorporated into an overall fire protection strategy or provide an additional early-intervention layer alongside traditional sprinkler or foam systems. Solutions can scale from a single suppression nozzle to comprehensive coverage across large aviation facilities.
With more than 1,000 solutions installed globally, Fire Rover brings proven, field-tested technology to aircraft hangars, MRO facilities, and FBOs.
In aviation, protecting the aircraft is only part of the equation. Protecting the people, minimizing downtime, and keeping operations moving are just as important.
